Now that school is out we finally have our evenings back. No more rushing to complete a million homework assignments before an early bed time so that we can get up at the crack of dawn and do it all again tomorrow. Admittedly we have been using most of our extra time to just veg out in front of the TV before we head to bed. I’ve been trying to incorporate some more interactive activities into after-dinner routine, and one of things I’m doing is bringing back family game night.
We are currently on vacation, but that doesn’t mean we can’t play games. We packed the van pretty full, but I printed a couple of these Zic Zac Zoe Game Sheets to bring along. I designed this game to go with one of our favorite candies, Mike and Ike Zours, but you can use a different kind if you want!
For just a few dollars, we had everything we needed for our game. If you’re having trouble getting the kids to put down their electronics and spend some time with you, bribing them with candy totally works. They were all about this game, and loved shouting out “Zic Zac Zoe!” when they won.
The rules for Zic Zac Zoe are pretty simple. First print out the Zic Zac Zoe game. (Make sure to set your printer settings to landscape and no margins.) Cut it out along the border. Open up a box of candy to use as your playing pieces, and sort them by color.
Two players each take turns putting their pieces down on the tic tac toe squares. The first one to get three in a row wins! The best part about Zic Zac Zoe is that whether you win or lose, you get to eat your game pieces, so really everyone wins. (Even if your game pieces are a little sour…)
We had a lot of fun playing Zic Zac Zoe as a family, and it’s now officially on our Family Game Night rotation.
