A new children’s show has hit Amazon Prime Video, and it’s teaching kids a really important lesson. It’s okay to make mistakes!
The Stinky & Dirty Show is based on the “I Stink!” book series by Kate and Jim McMullan. It follows the adventures and mishaps of two best friends and unlikely heroes, Stinky the garbage truck, and Dirty the backhoe. Stinky and Dirty are an adorable duo, full of resourcefulness and persistence. When things don’t go as expected, they learn that asking “what if” can lead to success! And while they don’t always do things the way you’d expect, their failures always lead them on a path to success.
Whenever they run into a problem, the dynamic duo turns to the contents of Stinky’s garbage load to find a way to solve it. And not only do they often fail their first attempt, sometimes their second or even third attempts don’t go as they hoped either! But they always push through and find a way to succeed, usually getting a little messy along the way.
As a parent, I sometimes struggle to teach my kids this very lesson. Of course I don’t want them to fail, ever! But in reality, if they don’t learn how to try, try again at this age, adulthood will be rough. And sure, sometimes it means cleaning up some rather big messes, but I’d rather have to deal with giving an extra bath or two if it means my kids aren’t afraid to get their hands dirty.
Towers will fall, but we can pick up the pieces and try again.
I feel like I’m constantly reminding my kids that it’s okay if they messed up! We don’t strive for perfection, we strive for success. And sometimes the road success can be a little messy! And while they don’t always listen to me, they sure do pick up habits and sayings from the shows they watch. Which makes it my job to find shows that will reinforce the lessons that I’m trying to hard to teach them. And soon, that “I can do it myself” attitude will take over and simultaneously drive you crazy and make you proud.

The Stinky & Dirty Show also features and extremely talented cast of voices! Jaden Betts (Donny from Doc McStuffins) as Stinky and Jacob Guenther (Chris from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend) as Dirty. You might also recognize voice appearances from folks like Joan Cusack, Jane Lynch, Andy Richter, Whoopie Goldberg, and more! The show also features a great soundtrack composed and performed by Bern. We were able to watch them perform some of the music – so fun!
