How to Save Money on Vacation with Groupon

As much as we love to be on vacation, it's not cheap for a family of six to afford to hit the road - or sky. And since we do it multiple times a year, people often ask, "How do you do it?" I have a few tricks up my sleeve, and one site I tend to hit up a lot is Groupon. We partnered with them to bring you this sponsored post full of awesome ...

Travel Stop: Julian Mining Company – Julian, CA

On our spontaneous $600 family road trip we made a detour into the mountains to check out the little town of Julian. Specifically to visit one of their main attractions, Julian Mining Company. We were looking for something different than the usual San Diego scenery where the kids could do something they’ve never done before. Tucked away, a ...

Travel Stop: General Patton Memorial Museum – Chiriaco Summit, CA

Tucked away on Interstate 10, between Indio and the Arizona/California State Line, is a tiny unincorporated community called Chiriaco Summit. There's some pretty cool history involved in how this little community came to be, but we'll share more of that later. What caught our eye when we pulled off for a bathroom break was this museum: An ...

  • Some of the exhibits at @museumofman in San Diego are located across the street from the main building and are connected to the St. Francis Chapel. The chapel is not open to the public, but if you're lucky you can sneak a peek from a little balcony door when you're leaving the museum exhibit.

  • Hidden in an unassuming neighborhood in Detroit is an art installation and community improvement effort called the Heidelberg Project. The Heidelberg Project’s mission is to inspire people to appreciate and use artistic expression to enrich their lives and to improve the social and economic health of the greater community. Walking through the Heidelberg Project is an eye-opening experience, for sure. If you find yourself in the Detroit area, we highly recommend checking this place out. 📍3600 Heidelberg Street, Detroit MI, 48207

  • This is the view from the top of Beaver Dam State Park in Nevada. We would have never found this place if a ranger hadn't given us a map of Eastern Nevada parks while we were camping at another park. You have to drive down 26 miles of dirt road to get to the entrance. That explains why there wasn't another soul in the entire park aside from the rangers who drove by to greet us. The park itself is lush and green, with a creek running through at the base. We found dragonflies, frogs and tadpoles at every stage of development, and other cool creatures. You can camp there, too! There's no amenities so you'd have to bring everything you need.

  • When you travel... do you eat at "familiar favorites" or do you prefer more adventurous eateries? I don't like to eat at any establishment that I can visit when I'm at home. The more unique it is, the better.
