The Best Instant Pot Refried Beans Ever

  1. Add the beans to your instant pot and fill to the max line with water. Let soak overnight.
  2. Drain beans, rinse, and return to instant pot. Add 10 cups of water and all of the spices. Cook on manual, high, for 55 minutes and let naturally release.
  3. Let cool slightly, and strain out about 2.5 cups of the bean liquid. (Don’t forget to remove the bay leaves!)
  4. While still warm, mash or blend the beans and remaining liquid.
  5. Let cool completely so that the beans can thicken.
  6. Enjoy!
Recipe Notes

I separated my beans into four pint-and-a-half jars, but you could use pint jars as well. I freeze the beans that we won’t be using within the week. Just thaw, heat, and eat!

Note: If you like your beans a little thicker, you can strain more of the liquid out before mashing/blending.
